Bio

Nicola Són was born in Paris and is of Armenian descent. He was soothed by 'duduk' and 'kotchari' at a young age. As a teenager he discovered Lígia, Tom Jobim's wonderful song as interpreted by João Gilberto and Stan Getz. A few years later, he flew to Rio de Janeiro to soak up the culture and improve his knowledge of music. Nicola Són has traveled to Manaus, Amazonia, Belém, Fortaleza, Recife... Through his journeys has observed and admired the richness of Brazil as well as the warmth and hospitality of the Brazilian people. He has also experienced the realities of Brazilian life beyond mere clichés. In his headquarters in Lapa, the Bohemian symbol carioca and cradle of samba, he met many musicians, composed and adapted in French Brazilian standard songs. There, he recorded Parioca, released in May 2010 in France and one year later in Brazil, which received an enthusiastic response from local medias, both curious and amazed by this young French on disc and on stage. In November 2011, he returned to Rio for five months with two objectives: to broadcast Parioca and record his second album Nord Destin. He worked with some of the best musicians including master percussionists Marcos Suzano and João Hermeto, bass player Rodrigo Villa and guitarist Gabriel Improta. He invited the legendary João Donato on piano and the samba band Casuarina who collaborated on one track. Nord Destin released January 28, 2013 in France with an amazing show at the New Morning (Paris). In November 2013, Nicola left Paris to settle in São Paulo. He launched Nord Destin which received a very positive response from the media and expanded his Brazilian audience. During 2014 and 2015, he played in São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Londrina, Maringá and other cities. Early 2015 he began recording his third album under the direction of Paulo Lepetit. This third LP, which concludes his Brazilian trilogy, titled Sampathique, releases early 2016. A tour follows in France and Brazil with more than 40 shows. 2017 is the year of the first USA tour, and the year of an EP recording : 4². It deals with 4 songs in Brazilian Portuguese composed by his oldest Brazilian friend, the journalist Igor Ribeiro. The production is given to 4 different producers of 4 different Brazilian cities : São Paulo (with Márcio Arantes), Rio de Janeiro (with Daniel Montes), Recife (with Hugo Linns) et Belo Horizonte (with João Antunes). The release of 4² is scheduled for late 2017 / early 2018.
